CultureSluts Podcast #12

Listen Here! it's the CultureSluts podcast 12!

Careful now, it's a long one as we're back from our holidays and catching up on all things CultureSluts. We discuss how the holidays were spent, Southern California, Mexican food, American fast food and Trader Joes.

We also check in with everyone on the Frappr map, and get a message from Foxy, a Dub now living in Lake Elsinore, California.

Predictions for the New Year are cast, upcoming gigs are discussed and then we end with music from Jessie's old band Aeroplanes.

chipotles are dried, smoked jalepenos. habeneros are the small VERY hot peppers, second only to the scotch bonnet on the scovil scale, I think.

funnily enough, I ended up in LA for 2 days this past week on business, and had no time to go to a market to get my peppers!

Sufjan Stevens is the name that escaped you toward the end of the show - before Illinoise, he paid tribute to Michigan with his album Seven Swans, and yes, he's awesome. Also, if you haven't heard Ray Lamontagne, you should check him out too.

It took a little while, but I love the Taco Bell - we too have a local rundown Mexican restaurant with great food, and a posh looking one with crap food, so that rule must be universal. Also, the Carls Jr folks bought the Hardees chain a few years ago, and integrated their menu, so we folks closer to the east coast do get to enjoy their food after all.

They sell White Castle burgers frozen in grocery stores here. Mmm mmm good, though there's nothing like stumbling around drunk around 4am on your way to order the double cheeseburger meal at a White Castle in Queens. Mmmmm.

Have you heard of a movie called Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies? It's original title is Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle - It's pretty funny too. In my humble opinion.

Anyway, enjoyed the extra-long show, looking forward to hearing from you guys again & yay Dublin Film Festival - I've missed it so!

PS: How come that Elsinore guy still sounds like a Dub and I've been here less time than him and I sound like a hillbilly dammit?!

There is a Mexican take-away place in Ranelagh called 'Burritos-n-Blues' that has some decent quick Mexican food and it's freshly made in front of you-not flash-cooked like Taco Bell.

yeah Burritos n Blues is great, much remnisent of "Super Cucas", the proper monster burrito place in Santa Barbara I frequented in high school... Much better than the guilty pleasure that is Taco Bell... (mmm freeze-dried-bean-powder...yum)
